Simon Johnson has spent more than thirty years working on a broad range of garden and landscape projects. He and his associates have worked throughout Europe and the United States, under a broad range of physical and climatic conditions. A specialist in the English country garden, examples of his work can be found from the east coast of the United States, Texas, and Maine, to Sotogrande, Switzerland and Germany, as well as throughout the UK. Recent commissions have been as diverse as a museum in Bath, a hotel courtyard in Derbyshire, and the restoration of an historic listed garden in Scotland.

Simon has won a number of awards, including: a B.A.L.I. award for the restoration of the gardens at Cherkley Court (now Beaverbrook); The Georgian Group Award for the Restoration of an Historic Landscape at Pitshill; and a competition for English Heritage to design a garden to celebrate the 95th birthday of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother at Walmer Castle.

Simon has been lucky enough to have worked with many talented garden designers throughout his career. Chief among them are Penelope Hobhouse, Piers and Luke Simon, Edward Hohler, Harry Anderson, and Tom Chapman.

Simon is the co-author of ‘Penelope Hobhouse’s Garden Designs’, published by Frances Lincoln in 2000.
